NSF Cybersecurity Summit Community Leadership Recognition Program

 

Background: The Cybersecurity Summit brings together cybersecurity practitioners, technical leaders, and risk owners from within the National Science Foundation (NSF) Large Facilities and CyberInfrastructure(CI) Community, as well as key stakeholders and thought leaders from the broader scientific and information security communities. The NSF cyberinfrastructure ecosystem presents an aggregate of complex cybersecurity needs (e.g., scientific data and instruments, unique computational and storage resources, complex collaborations) as compared to other organizations and sectors. This community affords unique opportunities to develop information security practices tailored to these needs, as well as breaking new ground on efficient, effective ways to protect information assets while supporting science. The Summit is an annual event organized by The NSF Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) and is sponsored with funding from the NSF.

 

Recognition: The Summit seeks to recognize outstanding leadership in the cyberinfrastructure and cybersecurity field. These leaders have developed and established the processes and practices for building a trusting, collaborative community, and seriously addressing that community's core cybersecurity challenges in ways that remain relevant, as research technologies and infrastructure evolve and change.

 

Requirements for Nomination

Nominations are open to all and self-nominations are accepted. A nomination must clearly articulate why a candidate should be considered for an award. A nomination must be complete as no additional research beyond what is submitted will be conducted. A nomination must include:

  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae for the nominee that includes a thorough overview of the candidate’s experiences and accomplishments.

  • 400 to 2000 word description of how the nominee meets the eligibility criteria (below).

  • References from at least three (3) current or former employers, colleagues or associates. These letters should articulate the nominee’s accomplishments, leadership ability, vision, both technical and professional skills, etc. the qualify the nominee for the award.

 

Eligibility

Nominees must be or have been contributing members of the cybersecurity practitioners, technical leaders, and risk owners from within the National Science Foundation Large Facilities and CI Community. Anyone within or outside the Summit Community may submit nominations.

Each nominee will be evaluated on:

  • Substantive participation and leadership within the Summit, including prior service on the program committee, participating in delivering the Summit program, advancing the shared knowledge of cybersecurity in the discipline.

  • Evidence of impact on and engaging others in the National Science Foundation Large Facilities and CI Community.

  • Contributions recognized to have had an impact on the National Science Foundation Large Facilities and CI Community.

  • Speaking, authoring, teaching or advancing topics of interest related to the National Science Foundation Large Facilities and CI Community.

  • Leadership demonstrated in institutions currently or previously employed.

  • In addition, the Evaluation Committee will consider:

    • Breadth of community engagement.

    • Leadership in addressing issues, influencing change or informing new directions.

    • Leadership in professional development within the Summit and/or other technology organizations.

  • Summit Program Committee and Award Evaluation Committee members currently serving are not eligible for consideration

  • NSF staff are not eligible for consideration

  • Prior awardees are not eligible for a second award.

 

Announcement and Recognition

The awardee will be recognized at the 2018 Cybersecurity Summit. The awardee is expected to provide a brief address within the Plenary Session of the Summit program.

Word limit:  400 to 2000 words (~1-5 single spaced pages excluding references & CV)

Notification of receipt:  July 6th

The 2018 recipient of the NSF Cybersecurity Summit Community Leadership Program will be announced at the summit in August.
